So last week, we became a guest participant in this seasons One Room Challenge, which means we have five more weeks to completely finish the girls room! That may sound like a hefty chunk of time for just a bit of decorating, but I like to purchase second hand furniture, and hate paying full price for anything, and change my mind on a whim… so most rooms take about two years to completely develop into something I am content with. Herein lies the challenge. To create a timeless room for my girls – including lots of pink, blue, and flowers – (the designer inside me is cringing from my mini clients wishes) wiithin a strict timeline.
Do you remember the moodboard from last week?
Well, I am delighted to say that I struck gold in TJ Maxx and picked up a gorgeous wool rug for a mere $75.
The Ikea Fjellse beds are assembled (yes – I should have painted them first, it would have been much easier, but there is snow on the ground and I wasn’t in the mood to drive to the paint shop.) I already know I will be painting them duck egg blue which will tie in with the blue, navy and pink in the rug.
My mum is visiting and she has helped me paint the vintage dresser that I picked up in a thrift store a couple of months back.
It has cute little handles that will tie in with the brass theme throughout the house, so we taped them off and undercoated with Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3. The top coats are a satin navy (‘Naval’ by Sherwin Williams) that also featured in different spots throughout our house.
It has definitely given the battered old dresser a new lead of life. Look at the legs on that thing!
Today, I am heading out thrifting again, looking for chairs and vintage accessories – my favourite pastime! Check out the lamps I found for $4 already…
Don’t forget to check out the other featured and guest participants in the ORC – there is so much inspiration out there!
